Race Discrimination

It is unlawful to discriminate based on a person’s actual or perceived race, the race of their guests, etc.

Color Discrimination

It is unlawful to discriminate based on a person’s skin color, tone, or shade––even within the same racial or ethnic group.

National Origin Discrimination

It is unlawful to discriminate based on a person’s ancestry, birthplace, limited ability to speak English, etc.

Religion Discrimination

It is unlawful to discriminate based on a person’s religion, religious clothing, or religious practices.

Sex Discrimination

It is unlawful to discriminate based on a person’s sex including prohibiting sexual harassment and providing some protections for survivors of domestic violence.

Familial Status Discrimination

It is unlawful to discriminate based on the presence of a child or children under the age of 18 years in the household or a person being pregnant.

Disability Discrimination

It is unlawful to discriminate based on a person’s physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more major life activities, etc.

Who We Are

The San Antonio Fair Housing Council, Inc., doing business as, Fair Housing Council of South Texas is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation with a mission to:
  • promote equitable housing opportunities,
  • engage in efforts to address discriminatory housing practices, and
  • advocate for open, accessible, and inclusive communities.

Founded in September 1996, the Fair Housing Council of South Texas promotes fair housing through free services offered to housing consumers which include complaint investigation, testing, housing counseling, advocacy, mediation efforts, enforcement actions, outreach activities, and educational trainings.
